Hi Guy, AMD will start up their new fab in Dresden by November with product expected by end of 1stQ 99. These will be high speed and high end, but ramp up time to standard yields is uncertain. It will certainly put pressure on INTC. It remains to be seen whether they can cut costs, or whether the Celeron will gain general acceptance. Everything I've seen indicates it's a dog and will likely go the way of "New Coke". I do not know what inventory plans INTC has for this chip, but I hope they plan to live hand to mouth!

Micron is not really in the race for 256MB and 1GB DRAM. They are a commodity producer survivng on cost control alone. They will wait for the process to be wrung out by Siemens, IBM and Hitachi. Rumors are that LG Siltron may be acquired by Samsung, which would further depress DRAM prices. Near term outlook is futher price declines, but the cost curve is approaching an asymptot now. It's already well under the cost of production.
