Kerry, NCNB was a superregional before superregionals were cool. And what's this about severing "ties to a redneck state"? Is that what they teach in Chapel Hill? That it is an island of culture in a sea of rednecks? With the notable exception of its senior Senator, NC has long been the most progressive of all "deep south" states and NationsBank is severing no ties. BTW, do you have any idea why North Carolina banks in general got to be the financial powerhouses of the Southeast and not the long since absorbed banks of "Hotlanta"?
