I remember very well the Boardwatch article . Rickard (the editor) ABSOLUTELY despises the RBOC's, ILEC's and Bellcore research personnel.

Apparently USWest issued a 'no more new alarm lines' policy and this send the ISP community into a tizzy. Thus, the Enhanced Service provider (ISP) reaction made me realize that the idea of using alarm lines for gaining access to the local loop was not so crazy after all. I mean they wouldn't be pissed off if it wasn't part of the master plan, right?

Furthermore, I had a really interesting conversation with the x-CEO (Gary Seamans) of Westell about a year ago....
I asked him *if* ISPs could use alarm lines to deliver xDSL. He gave me an ear to ear Cheshire cat smile and said they it was indeed doable but that there were some tariff issues to be resolved. Next question was an inquiry into who I worked for.
