Mongolian drilling begins Java Gold Corp JVAG Shares issued 28,994,483 Jul 24 close $0.11 Mon 27 Jul 98 News Release Mr. Armand Beaudoin reports The company's field crews in Northeastern Mongolia are currently carrying out a program of surface prospecting, sampling, geological mapping and evaluation of Java's seven exploration licences in this part of Mongolia. The work began approximately two months ago, at the start of this year's summer field season, and is a continuation of last year's initial reconnaissance and exploration. The seven exploration licences are all in the highly prospective Northeastern metallogenic belt of Mongolia, where Java's field crews have also been examining, sampling and evaluating a number of gold occurrences outside its existing exploration licences. Early Drilling at Tsagaan Chuluut II Preliminary results from one of Java's prospects within the seven licences in Northeastern Mongolia, the Tsagaan Chuluut II prospect on the Dashbalbar licence, are sufficiently encouraging to warrant early drilling. A diamond drill has been mobilized to site and is expected to begin an initial two hole drill program almost immediately. 1997 Exploration at Tsagaan Chuluut II Work on the Tsagaan Chuluut II prospect began in 1997. Significant gold values were returned from soil sampling and rockchip sampling from an approximately 700 x 300 metre area containing epithermal quartz veins, veinlets and silicified breccias within variably silicified and brecciated metasediments. Two trenches, oriented approximately north-south, were excavated in 1997 across the centre of this prospect. The westernmost trench, 1-97, outlined a 16m wide zone of altered slates, at the north margin of the 700 x 300 metre prospect area, assaying 2.27 g/t Au. Assay results from trench 2-97, approximately 100m to the east of trench 1-97, included an interval of silicified breccia assaying 2.07 g/t Au over 3m. 1998 Exploration at Tsagaan Chuluut II Continued exploration on the Tsagaan Chuluut II prospect so far in 1998 has included more rockchip sampling, test pitting, and additional north-south trenching. The most encouraging results have again come from the north margin of the prospect area, in the vicinity of trench 1-97: Trench 4-98, 120m west of trench 1-97, returned assays including 0.67 g/t Au over 4m and 0.48 g/t Au over 5m in silicified slates at the north margin of the prospect area, directly along strike from the mineralized interval in trench 1-97. Grab samples at 2m intervals, taken along an approximately north-south line between the mineralized portions of trenches 1-97 and 4-98, returned assays averaging 2.15 g/t Au over a total of 28m. In addition, significant widths of anomalous gold values have been located in trenches excavated at either end of the known 700m long prospect area. Trench 1-98, to the west, returned 0.31 g/t Au in graphitic slates over 16m while trench 3-98, to the east, returned 0.18 g/t Au over 40m. Anomalous arsenic, mercury, bismuth and silver values have been returned from rock samples taken from within the prospect area. Java is awaiting additional assay results from its current work. Java believes the main control for gold mineralization at the Tsagaan Chuluut II prospect is a series of east-west trending faults along its north margin. The host slates in this zone are pervasively silicified, and associated epithermal breccias are localized on and to the south of this zone. |
