Sorry, I don't know enough about SoftImage to really comment, just that it is a smaller part of the general post-production market (even more of a niche-player than Avid). As for the bigger picture, I'm sure I've belabored my point long enough on niche market size/competition/pricing going forward.

I disagree. MDEA is already trading slightly below book value during this transition phase and has managed its cash and shareholder equity pretty well. Avid's book value is around $10. I'm sure some Avid shareholders were very happy to have bought Avid near book value last year. MDEA needs their R&D expenses to come down once they ship the new product lines, and a little boost in revenues/earnings could easily get them moving up quickly again. I just don't see that happening for a few more months or perhaps by next NAB, so I'm keeping my eye on them. Stocks often move in anticipation of major developments like this, so you never know.
