C-Cube Has Banner Quarter

C-Cube Microsystems [CUBE] reported second quarter revenues were up 16.1 percent to $82.5 million, compared with 71.1 million in the same quarter in 1997. Much of the Milpitas, Calif.- company's success can be tied to their system group, Divicom, which manufactures encoders and network management systems.

During the second quarter, DiviCom was selected by British Digital Broadcasting (BDB) for their DTV project. BDB represents half of all licensed digital broadcasters in the U.K. C-Cube also secured DVD design deals with Toshiba, Gateway, Acer and Hitachi.

Elias Moosa, analyst with BancAmerica in San Francisco attributes their healthy revenue report on the company's technology and its increased focus on DiviCom, which represents over a third of C-Cube's sales. "Their strongest suit is their technology, which provides the world's only single-chip broadcast quality MPEG-2 codec," Moosa says.
