Hi Lynndal-
I received my lease agreement yesterday and have also turned it over to the the family attorney. I read it too and came to some of the same conclusions that the FP you are coresponding with. Most of all I cant believe they want you to sign for a supposed $3000 piece of equipment without ever seeing it! Give me a break! The ability to change the price is very scary and it seems that you are stuck in the lease even if Startronix goes out of business. By that time they wont own the lease anyway.
Also for those interested in checking out the competition, here is the URL for WEB TV;
webtv.net
The unit is not quite the "dumb" box many people refer to it as and has a slot for credit cards (check out the specs page). I did not know this but Microsoft is a partner in WEB TV. You know, even if people do get tired of what Web TV can or cant do, they are not stuck in a lease for 4 years. Especialy a lease like the one STNX wants us to sign.
I have come across another problem in my area. I have checked out PSI's home page and found that there is no local access number for my area. This would included the cities of Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Marina, Seaside, Salinas, King City and others. STNX has said that I can have a 800 number that only charges me $.09 per minute for access. Wow, that means for about $75 per month plus and $3.60 PER HOUR I can have internet access. For those of you who need to check for access numbers the URL for PSI is;
psi.net
I will find out what our attorney has to say and get back to you guys.
And Paul- I think your right about lease agreements that they are going to be more popular in the future but at least with a car I get to test drive it and know pretty much what I am getting for my money. Also I can be pretty well assured that Honda or Ford ( or whomever) is going to be around to provide whatever service I may need. I think you will find more than a few thousand dropping not signing the lease, or at least the smart ones wont without checking out the unit first.
