Hello Pete,

I think that MSWIN V 6.0 has a problem with the way they are calculating Variable Moving Averages and that is what caused such a big difference in the results you got as opposed to the results I got... Using different Moving Averages will give you different results BUT not that different.... Usually the difference will be in the dates of the signals. If you are using standard MA's you might get the buy or sell signal later then you would get by using Exponential or Variable, but in most cases you would get the signals. There could be times when you might not get a signal but in the case we are talking about I think it is due to a software error within MSWIN and not the different types of MA's... I have sent a message to EQUIS about the problem so hopefully I will hear from them soon....

I do not have IBD's formula in front of me BUT I think that their RS and EPS rankings favor more current data then most of the others... To see the differences between say IBD and TC2000 you would only have to look at one years worth of data on the chart. I usually look at two years at a time so this would not be a problem. All you would have to do is page through some of your stocks and pick out the ones that look very strong. List their symbols and then look up their EPS and RS rankings in IBD. Once you have the rankings on paper look the same stocks up using the other service in question. Now you can compare the rankings and see which ones you like best.

I would do this with a lot of stocks because it is a very important decision you are about to make.... Over time, this decision will be worth a large amount of money for you so please do not take it lightly...

Your objective should be not to prove one better then the other BUT to find the service that will identify the strongest stocks AND the best candidates for your database...

Don't get hung up on which one is the best because that will not make you money... Always think about which one will provide me the BEST candidates for my database. Dave Evans
