As far as I know, the E4 is the first "single chip" MPEG-2 encoder to tape out and return samples. In contrast, I'm sure the instant VDimpass samples came back from the fab, everybody (press) would be the first to know. "Two years ahead of the competition" was the first Innovocain press release. Maybe two months at best.

Taped out and samples back. This puts them on track for late Q1 announcement. (April NAB).
