The practical point is not to rehash the past but look to the future. There the question is what will happen in Europe? Will the CDMA overlay which Qualcomm and Vodaphone developed be permitted in the next year or two? What form will the 3rd generation of wireless take - W CDMA, CDMA 2000, or some variation? In particular, will more than one standard be permitted or will a converged standard emerge? Outside of Europe it seems pretty clear the GSM and CDMA will continue to build. And probably at least one approach which is backward compatible with CDMA One (developed by Qualcomm) will be adopted. The question is whether W CDMA or some other non compatible CDMA One standard for the 3rd generation will also emerge for the world outside Europe. Only time will tell. Comments?
