Napco Named IBM Business Partner

AMITYVILLE, N.Y., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Napco Security Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: NSSC - news), one of the world's leading suppliers of high performance electronic alarm equipment, has announced that it has been chosen by International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM - news) to integrate its latest Gemini(TM) Security Systems within ''Intelligent Homes,'' powered by IBM's Home Director(TM) Systems.

The partnership's debut was embodied in a flagship model home, located in Florida and owned by Mutual Fund Magazine Editor-in-Chief Norman Fosback. It features Napco's Gemini Security System integrated within IBM's ''Home Director Professional'' System, used to provide computer-managed networking of the home's Napco Security System as well as lighting, climate control systems and PC network.

Napco's responsibility in the IBM-partnership is to supply electronic security products for use in these ''Intelligent Homes'' controlled by IBM's advanced Home Director technology. While providing security functions, Napco's leading-edge Gemini Hybrid Wireless System, acts as the eyes and ears of the premises detecting movement, etc., and communicating this activity to the IBM Home Director controller. The Napco System's integral role is seamless amidst the Home Director-driven network of electronic subsystems.

To date, Napco is the only security equipment manufacturer of alarm panels, transmitters and receivers selected by IBM to provide security products for use with IBM's Home Director home networking systems -- due in part to the powerful communications capability of the Gemini alarm panel's RS232 panel-port. Increasingly popular in its own rite, the Napco Gemini family of security alarm panels is well respected and known for setting a new standard of reliability, particularly with its innovative companion line of crystal-controlled wireless transmitters and helically filtered wireless receivers.

It is anticipated that ''Networked Homes,'' similar to the one in Florida, will eventually become the residences of choice for millions of home buyers throughout the world, significantly enhancing the revenue opportunities for companies such as Napco who have the ability to provide state-of-the-art technology that can be integrated into the homes' networked architecture.

Napco Security Systems, Inc. manufactures and markets a complete line of technologically advanced electronic security systems used in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial installations. The Company's products are distributed worldwide by Napco's growing network of wholesale distributors, alarm central station operators and original equipment manufacturers.

Napco security products have earned a reputation for technical excellence, reliability and innovation, poising the Company for revenue growth in the rapidly expanding electronic security market -- a market which has increased at a rate of 6.9% annually since 1991 and now exceeds $14 billion.
