<< the history of innovation is very distant>> hmmm. it would seem that way, wouldn't it. however, while a "much larger company" would have the advantage of "much larger" resources. it remains to be seen if that is the only answer. as a target, we know ampex to be viable, but i am not so sure innovation is beyond their reach even before any considerations of consolidation prevail. it's just hard to maintain wings and a prayer after a while...something's "gotta give". ed(perry) has capsulized the implicit strength of ampex "goodwill" i found so pervasive; it remains for ed(bramson) to simply play the hand. one way or the other... if we are to take him at his last word his last letter seems to suggest he is playing close to the vest, but closer at hand than we may imagine.... ( trying to maintain a modicum of objectivity...) just give us a sign, as they say. and ante up on goodwill.
