Doesn't look like we'll have a closing rally today. Last time this happened (last Thursday) the next day opened higher but closed lower. Just a statistic, not a formula.

The concept of short's covering their day trades is not a great explanation for the day end rallies. Where would they be getting their shares to short? From Datek? More likely, major short players are boxing and unboxing, meaning that they already have their short shares and don't need to worry about buying in. They can ride a short position overnight if they choose.

I'm just guessing about the mechanics. It remains a mystery to me.
