That may be valid in a few cases, but I don't think it is entirely accurate. Dell and other big tech stocks fell, but a lot of other stocks, including the NYSE actually rose (check the chart). So the late selling seems to have been concentrated only in the tech sector, especially the NASDAQ leaders. I don't why this happened, just that it wasn't all money managers doing it.
