Remember your guess that Microsoft was actually interested in Novell technology, and that was why they were talking. Methinks you were jumping to conclusions. Looks like this is a more plausible explanation:

"Novell's intransigence is underscored by the fact that none of the other developers of operating system software -- all of whom compete vigorously with Microsoft -- have refused to comply with Microsoft's subpoenas," Microsoft said in the motion filed in Utah, where Novell is based.

Maybe Orin's little witch hunt is coming home to roost.
