Silicon supplier MEMC Electronic Materials Inc., St. Peters, Mo., will close its facility in Spartanburg, S.C., and cancel construction of a 200-mm wafer production plant in Malaysia as well as pull out of a joint venture in China for small-diameter substrates. These moves are part of an effort to cut MEMC's annual spending by $60 million.
