Wolverine World Wide Awarded U.S. Department of Defense Contract

ROCKFORD, Mich., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Wolverine World Wide, Inc. WWW announced today that it has been awarded a new contract to supply high gloss, Bates branded oxford uniform shoes to the U.S. Department of Defense. The contract calls for the delivery of a minimum of 570,000 pair and could range as high as 1,064,000 pair over the next three years. The Company reports the commercial value of this contract will range between $16.6 and $31.0 million.
"The U.S. military is undergoing a process to improve the quality and performance features of both its uniforms and footwear," stated Glen Becker, Vice President, Wolverine Uniform Group. "A major component of this upgrade has been focused on adding better quality branded products to its issue list in lieu of non-branded, private label programs of the past. Bates Uniform Footwear is honored to continue as a major contributor to this transition."
Bates Vice President and General Manager Roger Magill then added, "Earning this contract recognizes Bates' strong reputation for the high quality and craftsmanship engineered into all of its footwear. It also builds on the brand's ongoing success as a major supplier of these same uniform oxfords to the U.S. Marine Corps and its strong success with designing high-performance footwear for the U.S. Navy."
Becker concluded by saying this new contract, which is effective immediately, extends the use of Bates high-quality oxfords beyond the U.S. Marine Corps, as they will now be included as part of the standard uniform issue for both the U.S. Army and Navy.
