Emile,
I'm writing this late at night so it will be short. I hope we can expand on it later. A couple of days ago I asked you if you believed the Old Covenant was superceded by the New, and you responded with a yes and some scripture.
Message 5315724
With prayer I have conducted a word study and this is what I have concluded.
The OT is fading from view, it has been made old by a new and better covenant, however, it seems to me that there is no indication that the NT totally abolished the OT. In fact scripture indicates that both are in effect today and I will deal with that in a moment. This new covenant is for all people, unlike the OT, which was made between God and the Israelites.
As I indicated above it seems that the two covenants existed side by side in Paul's day according to Hebrews 9 vs. 8,9.
9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9:9 Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Paul is writing this while the temple is still standing and Jewish worship is ongoing, and Jesus has died and ascended to the right hand of the Father.
There is much more to cover, but I must get some sleep so that I may be able to work tomorrow.
God Bless,
