Mr. Archie Nesbitt reports
Naneco's confirmation and exploration drilling on its Jiawula
zinc-silver-lead-copper deposit in Nei Mongolia, China, has encountered zones of
massive to semi-massive sulphides within a multi-vein system. Vein No. 2 is
currently being tested along trend with several holes drilled to depths of 180 to
300 metres. Many of these holes intercepted similar sulphide mineralization at
varying depths and in several zones indicating a substantial interval of
mineralization across the vein system which is open at depth. Core is being
shipped to the assay lab in Vancouver for analyses. Assay results are pending.
The 1998 drill program at Jiawula is designed to verify results of previous drilling
and expand on the existing resource and fill in the gaps that exist within the known
ore bearing structure which has been identified for a 1,500 metre distance.
Previous drilling by the Heilongjiang arm of the China National Nonferrous Metals
Industry Corp (CNNC) on vein No. 2 intercepted combined lead, zinc, copper
and silver mineralization over widths varying from 2 to 14 metres. CNNC's
93,000 metres of past drilling indicates a drill measured mining resource of
5,168,000 tons at 0.46 per cent Cu, 3.38 per cent Pb, 5.7 per cent Zn, and
140.8 gm/t Ag.
The Jiawula project is part of Naneco's approximately 700 square kilometre
property position in the area. The project area lies along a major NNE-trending
crustal boundary known as the Derbur deep fracture zone. This paleozoic-age
suture is one of the most important deep fracture zones in the Central
Asia-Mongolia region and represents a major structural zone. It controls a number
of intrusive related base metals and gold deposits in this part of China and is
probably responsible for the NNE-trending belt of Mesozoic and Tertiary
intrusives and volcanics found in the region.
According to the Shenyang Institute's geological description of the mineralization
at Jiawula, metallization within the vein system occurred concurrently with the
intrusion of several porphyry dikes/stocks that are indicated as Yanshanian
(Jurassic) in age. Throughout China, Yanshanian intrusive activity is responsible for
much of the base and precious metals mineralization.
