Hi Xy,
On page 3, EBN, December 9, 1996, there is an article about four PC makers support 56K protocol that is implemented by Rockwell/Lucent. Please see: ebnonline.com
These four companies, Compaq, AST, Hewlett Packard and Toshiba have siding up with the Rockwell/Lucent camp.
Unfortunately what Mr Rishi Gupta predicted last week is going to happen.
The users will be "torn between two lovers...".
I think the foolish marketing people at USRX need to be kicked at their butts. If USRX agreed to settle the issue with Rockwell/Lucent, they can still have their market lead but without creating two temporary standards. These, then will lead to one interim standard, and fiannly will lead to the ITU standard.
I predict that in the interim standard, something will pop up that will render the software upgradability "USELESS". For example, something needs to be modified on the DAA, or the codec, or this and that....
I will support Rishi Gupta's prediction of 0 to 4 months lead time of USRX's 56K modem shipment. After the lead time it will all be BIG FIGHTS for market share.
