Jim >> a plan to put S.S. money in the Market, ( I'm strongly against this )<<

I've been against it, however if it has an appropriate set of guidelines, such as there is "no new era of valuations" (sorry Abby), it may just be the only thing that changes the narrow focus of the market, and corrects the overvalued/MO stocks hogging all the money. I certainly don't want it used to prop up MSFT at 67 times earnings or other 3 digit or negative P/E internet stocks, but I could see it as a way to actually breath some life into the majority of the market that is not the nifty-50 du jour.

Any suggestions on how to keep it from being used to fuel speculative fad-stocks that would cause them to correct by rotating to value? Perhaps they should take another look at your Ex-DOW index idea...
