ANZ is definitely NOT walking away from BC. As Gabe has already posted, amongst other things there were some financial advantages for ANZ associated with allowing AGC to become operator for the time being

Also, the B.C. Mining Environment may be undergoing some very positive changes which may prove important in the future, ie:

"The Government of British Columbia introduced legislation on April 19, 1998 designed to streamline the approvals process for new mines in the province.

Bill 12 - The Mining Rights Amendment Act - is a positive first
step to ensure mining activity continues to be a major component of the B.C. economy.

The government also introduced legislation (Bill 41) for a mineral exploration tax credit worth up to $9 million annually. This bill is in the process of first reading in the B.C. legislature."
