Sig, my remarks concerning GTW were purely hypothetical. But continuing in the hypothetical vein, IBM would not need Wait's acquiescence in the purchase. Remember, we aren't talking high tech here. We're talking sales, assembly and distribution. So a hostile bid would work even better. The idea is not to funnel sales away from the parent. IBM PC and server sales would continue in the future with the same level of corporate support. The idea behind the stratagem would be to use GTW as a lever to get into the direct sales/BTO/JIT niche without jeopardizing existing IBM channels because branding would remain intact.
