Can not write off no more then $3000, and the IRS will look at gains before losses. If you bought and sold a stock and made $1000 and then had a loss of $5000 you still have to pay taxes on the $1000 yet you can only write off $3000 of your $5000 loss. beautiful system we have here isn't it? LH
