In reference to a possible IBM/GTW merger/takeover/buyout whatever,how could this possibly seriously affect Dell? Dell has been quite successful [so far] in competing against them as two separate entities so how can putting them together be a serious threat? For one thing IBM has been faltering at best in the PC business and GTW with their primary thrust in consumer end of the business hasn't been all that successful elsewhere other than the U.S. Also there is no evidence (as far as I know) that GTW has an equivalent or better business model than DELL.

Of course one can argue that with IBM's expertise and international exposure combined with GTWs relatively successful business model the new entity could present a formidable challenge to DELL. But suddenly one realizes that IBM's expertise in PC business has been less than mediocre and that GTW thus far has not shown us any special advantage that they have against DELL except that they are in the general ball park area when it comes their business model.

I belive if Dell can successfully compete against them as separate entities DELL should be able to withstand the competition from the combined and probably a more bureaucratic and less efficient entity.

I am not saying that DELL will have an easy time if this happens as it is hard to predict the actual effect,therefore Dell must be on guard as I am sure they will.

Do I make any sense or is it all a lot of rubbish??? What do you think?

By the way whatever happened to LOTUS??? <gg>
