I read today in the SF Chronicle that Homestake Mining Co. of San Francisco announced plans to buy Santa Fe Pacific Gold Corp. of Albuquerque NM in a deal valued at about 2.2 billion. The merger would create a mega-mining company with the largest gold reserves in North America. The new Homestake would be the second largest US based gold producer with 17 mines in four countries and about 1.1 billion in annual sales. Homestake claims to be the oldest listed company on the NYSE that is still in its original business. I know GPGI is more interested in PGM's than gold, but could this effect GPGI's price in any way?
