What if there is a surplus of smelter capacity globally? Nickle is just a commodity that is subject to global demand. Why force a company to make an investment to buy jobs (read votes)for Tobin when the expenditure for a smelter is not justified regardless of the current price of the commodity. Tobin is not being driven by the economic reality that currently exists. Only in Nfld and other communist countries.

The resource belongs to the people. I don't know whether Inco has an interest in the property yet. If not, the gov't could expropriate the deposit. Just because Inco has the current exploration rights to the property doesn't mean they have any rights to mine it as long as its on Crown land. They probably don't have a fee simple title to the land or surface rights covering the deposit. THey are mineral claims that have limited value without the permits that only the gov't of Nfld can grant as they are the Crown. That's the card Tobin is playing. So Tobin should expropriate it and develop it with the peoples money and it will end up like ALL the other corrupt projects taken on by the gov't right down to hydroponic cucumbers or did you miss that one. Worthless, because none has been driven by economics.

By the way, the gov't and the controlling families of Nfld have done an excellent job of raping and pillaging the people on the rock. They don't need any lessons from Inco.
