More on JOVE....

From their Web site (http://www.instantiations.com/jove.htm)

"...JOVE generates highly optimized, native code for a specific target processor. The initial release of JOVE produces code for Intel's IA-32 architecture (Pentium and Pentium II). The output of the JOVE optimizer is a single, self contained .exe file that is capable of executing under either Windows/95 or Windows/NT..."

Here is a listing of the principals (http://www.instantiations.com/staff.htm#Allen Wirfs-Brock)

====================================================================

No Solaris support only Windows/95 or Windows/NT (IA-32 architecture). Perhaps when SUNW gets their Solaris ported to the Merced chip they can take advantage of JOVE. Seems a little backwards to me.

They do state "...Developers still use their favorite Java IDE's, still create the write-once run anywhere class file versions of their applications...and when they want to deploy on a Wintel platform they run their code through JOVE before deployment. Other processor/OS combinations are planned..."

Soon this will all be seamless to the enduser.
