"In regards to verse 8, didn't you say in Jeremiah, the House of Israel and the House of Judah referred to "Ancient Hebrews", or in other words all of Israel in Jeremiah's time? You told me this in your following post: I found it curious when you posted these verses in Hebrews you now have changed the meaning of the Houses of Israel and Judah to the son of Jacob. Why? What and where is the son of Jacob defined or mentioned?
The sons of Jacob is also a biblical term refering to the ancient Hebrews. It is use frequently in the prophecies and the historical books. The simply refers to ancient Hebrews or to the Israelites. The house of Judah and the house of Israel had distinct identities while they were separate kingdoms but this distinction vanished after the Babylonian Captivity. After Nehemiah and Ezra rebuilt the Temple and restored Israel in Jerusalem in the 6th century B.C., the term Jew, sons of Israel, sons of Jacob, the house of Israel are all synonymous terms. I haven't change the meaning at all. The sons of Jacob means the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
There are hundreds of examples where the "sons of Jacob, "the children of Jacob" and the "house of Jacov" are used interchangeably with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. These terms also refer to the ancient Hebrews. I have given you a few examples below.
Isa. 2 5: O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Isa. 10 21: The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. 22: For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
Amos 9 8:...... saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. 9: For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 10: All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
1Chr. 16 13: O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
2Kgs.17 34:...commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
Amos 3 13: Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,
Amos 9 8:...... saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. 9: For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 10: All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
