LEWINSKY TELLS STARR THAT SHE WROTE TALKING POINTS; LEWINSKY WAS HIT WITH EVIDENCE
In a development greeted ecstatically at the White House, the WASHINGTON POST is reporting in Wednesday edition's that Monica Lewinsky has told investigators she was the author of the controversial "talking points" urging her onetime friend, Linda Tripp, to change her story in the Paula Jones case, not Clinton or his advisers!
Dynamic Duo Sue Schmidt and Peter Baker at the POST also report that Clinton attorney David Kendall is now seeking to "put off Clinton's testimony to force Starr to delay any report on potentially impeachable offenses until after the fall elections and a new Congress convenes in January."
The NEW YORK TIMES reports in morning editions that Lewinsky is also prepared to testify that the president told her that he planned to deny a relationship in his deposition in the Jones suit, and if they both denied it, no one would know the truth.
The late developments closed a dramatic day in Sin City.
Monica Lewinsky agreed to cooperate with investigators after she was hit with a 'mountain of evidence' Notably: Information that she left behind in the hard drive of her computer!
Prosecutors also are in posession of love notes Lewinsky had written to Clinton, receipts of gifts, local phone records [that show calls made to the White House], even receipts for taxi trips, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The amount of evidence Starr's team collected, in the end, left little room for Lewinsky to wiggle.
Lewinsky's hard drive was filled with incriminating notes, e-mails, documents written by Lewinsky. Lewinsky used the computer like a diary.
"She was trapped," a source close to the action in Washington explains. "She was, in effect, busted... she left behind an evidence trail that was 10 miles long. Starr had everything."
Everything but her testimony.

THAT PICTURE!
**World Exclusive**
Mon Jul 27 1998 22:01:53 ET -- Of all the evidence in the Monica Lewinsky case that will become public in the coming weeks, a single photograph has haunted those who have seen it -- a photograph that shows President Clinton staring into the eyes of White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Multiple sources in and out of government have now described a photograph that is in the posession of investigators: A photograph taken in 1995 that shows President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky alone, facing each other, looking intensely into each other's eyes, with the president holding both of Lewinsky's hands!
Prosecutor Kenneth Starr's office is in possession of at least 75 photographs that capture President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky together in various settings, the DRUDGE REPORT first revealed in April.
The majority of the pictures that Starr has obtained have come directly from the White House itself under subpoena.
"The amount of pictures of the two together, or near each other, just takes your breath away," a source who has flipped through the pictures in Starr's office tells the DRUDGE REPORT. "One picture, that is in perfect focus, shows them lost in each other's eyes."
The White House refuses to publicly release photographs, letters and other documents relating to the Monica Lewinsky mess.
The haunting picture that shows Clinton and Lewinsky holding hands, face-to-face, is clearly circumstantial evidence -- but it is that stray photo that will become the talk of a nation once it is made public. |
