Analysts had expected a disk drive industry turnaround beginning in 3Q. All earnings announcements or CC have not shown a picture that this indeed will happen or is occurring. Also, it could be that some of us have seen the latest July IDC forecast (preliminary, not yet published) on the industry. This new forecast shows volume and revenue 4% in 1998, 7% in 1999, and 9% in 2000 lower than it had forecasted in March,1998. Such a drastic change in only 4 months! This shows that the industry is not growing as fast as it had anticipated. Why invest in DD companies now? Maybe need to wait for some consolidation.
