Multimedia software, from 3D Action games to DVD MPEGII playback, will perform better under Win98, with its ring-zero hardware support, than NT, which has to process through its hardware abstraction layer. For some companies support for legacy (16 bit)hardware drivers is paramount. Win9x has more driver support of all types than any other OS. d'tho btw, the Win9x family has had peer server support all along, ideal for workgroup-level sharing. NT or Novell can be used by the Win9x box for user-level authentication, if needed.
