(COMTEX) B: JAPAN TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY LOANS TO THAILAND
B: JAPAN TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY LOANS TO THAILAND

TOKYO, July 29 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- The Ministry of Foreign
Affairs announced Wednesday it has signed an accord to provide 49.8
billion yen in emergency loans to the Thai government.

Of the loans, 13.4 billion yen will be used for small-scale public
works projects expected to create jobs. The remaining 36.4 billion yen
will be allocated to ongoing projects whose yen loan-financed portion
has been raised due to a lack of Thai government funds.

A special 1% loan rate set up in April to help alleviate the Asian
economic crisis will be applied to the 13.4 billion yen portion.
