TIF, <I'm a bit out of action right now, after getting nine stiches in my head last night after our Tuesday night race from running into an exposed bolt on my boat.> I learned this a long time ago: You are racing....Tacking to blanket and tacking to backwind: you don't want to have a port-tack boat tack right after crossing you, stealing the wind from your sail, and you don't want a boat to tack just before crossing you, for that will backwind you.
