Story posted at 12:30 p.m. EDT/9:30 a.m. PDT, 7/28/98 SpeedFam gets first order for 300-mm wafer polisher CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A major European silicon-wafer manufacturer has ordered SpeedFam International Inc.'s newest 300-mm single-sided silicon-wafer polishing system, the company announced here today. The delivery of the SSP-434 tool marks SpeedFam's first order for the 300-mm silicon wafer waxless polishing system, which will be used for intermediate and final polishing of 300-mm silicon wafers. "Our 300-mm silicon wafer system maintains the submicron flatness required in double-sided polishing while it enhances surface quality," said Makoto Kouzuma, president and CEO of SpeedFam. The SSP-434 is manufactured by SpeedFam's Far East Joint Venture. Featuring a four-carrier, two-table design, the SSP-434 is designed for 300-mm waxless silicon wafer polishing. The system is a fully automated cassette-to-cassette single-sided polishing system for both 200-mm and 300-mm silicon wafers with a throughput of 25 to 35 wafers per hour (two-minute cycle per table) and individualized pad-cleaning capability.
