Northern Telecom syndicates $1.1 bln

Reuters Story - December 10, 1996 17:01

DALLAS, Dec. 10 (Reuter) - Northern Telecom Inc said on
Tuesday it is syndicating through a group of major financial
institutions about $1.1 billion of its $1.3 billion vendor
credit facility with Sprint Spectrum LP.

Sprint PCS, a partnership of Sprint Corp ,
Tele-Communications Inc , Cox Communications Inc
and Comcast Corp , will market Sprint
Spectrum's personal communication services, or PCS.

The syndication of participation rights and loan
assignments is expected to be completed in early 1997, the
company said.

Nortel is a major provider of goods and services in the
construction of Sprint Spectrum's network.

The company said about $600 million of the syndicated
financing has been committed to by such financial institutions
or their affiliates. The Export Development Corp of Canada is
also expected to play a major role in the deal, Nortel said.

The company said the estimated $200 million of the
remaining loans are expected to be assigned to a supplier under
an existing commitment to provide related financing to Nortel.
