AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Michael Dell, the man who built a $7 billion computer company out of his college dormitory room, is trying his hand at writing a book.

HarperBusiness, a division of HarperCollins, said Wednesday it will publish ''Direct From Dell: Strategies that Revolutionized an Industry.''

Dell, 33, will tell how the company he founded in 1984 has challenged conventional wisdom, from selling directly to consumers to more recently selling computers via the Internet.

The book, which is to be released in March, is being written with Catherine Fredman.

Dell began the company that bears his name by building and selling personal computers out of his University of Texas dorm room.
