I would like to add to my previous post. There are many details about this merger that are not known by the public. My guess is that GTE wanted this deal to happen more than BEL. GTE's management evaluated their options. Should we try a takeover of BEL ? How much would we have to pay ? How much would GTE stock drop ? Would another bidder enter the picture and force us to increase our price ? If that bidder was SBC would we want a combination of SBC and BEL competing with us ? GTE wanted the deal. In fairness to GTE management maybe they made the the right choices. Ricky
