USRX has x2 technology; it is 56k downstream, 33.6 upstream;
Rockwell has K56 Plus technology; it is 56k downstream, 33.6 upstream;
Lucent(AT&T) has V.flex2 technology; it is 56k both ways; but it will be downward compatible with 33.6 both ways;
Rockwell and Lucent announce inter-operable protocol called K56flex. I suppose this means 56k downstream and 33.6 upstream to maintain inter-operability.
Why can USRX also try to be inter-operable with K56flex? To win market share for the next several months? I think USRX will make high profits for several months but does anyone seriously think Rockwell/Lucent will recede their market share as well as their protocol? Obviously not.
Therefore Rishi's prediction is not exagerated. It is not whining, etc... but it is going to happen. I am not a public standard enforser(i.e., FCC employee), but the capitalist' view expressed by a few investers on this site are definitely near-sighted.
I, for one, endorse Rishi's bashing against any " public standard trouble-makers". This kind of development , even though it occured in the past and looks like it is going to occur in the 56K, depicts a social -technological phenomenum that lacks long-term thinking.
