Company Press Release
Worldwide Customer Base Grows for ADSL Chipset From Aware and Analog Devices
Aware's DMT ADSL Technology for Ultrafast Internet Access Continues to Emerge as the Technology of Choice for Equipment Suppliers
BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998-- Aware Inc. (NASDAQ:AWRE - news), a worldwide leader in xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology for high-speed Internet access over existing telephone networks, today announced that the worldwide customer base for the ADI/Aware ADSL chipset continues to expand, reflecting the growing demand for Aware's full-rate DMT technology among equipment suppliers.

Based on Aware's core intellectual property for DMT ADSL and co-developed with Analog Devices, the ADI/Aware AD210msp910 chipset meets or exceeds all performance requirements for the ANSI standard T1.413. The chipset is designed to serve the needs of customers in the telecommunications, data communications and customer premise equipment industries.

Among the companies now incorporating the ADI/Aware chipset into their product offerings are industry leaders such as ADC, Advanced Fibre Communications [Nasdaq:AFCI - news], Ascend Communications, Cisco Systems, Diamond Lane, DSC, Efficient Networks, Ericsson, Newbridge Networks, Philips, Pulsecom, Samsung, and Sumitomo Electric Industries.

''We are encouraged by the number of equipment suppliers developing products based upon our technology,'' said Michael Tzannes, president and chief executive officer of Aware. ''We believe this further signals the imminence of ADSL deployments.''

Tzannes added: ''Aware intends to continue to expand its role as a key supplier of DSL intellectual property and technology. In this way, we are positioning ourselves to benefit significantly when the ADSL market takes off.''
