You know Hank, I had a couple of wild thoughts this weekend about whether Newmont might have a plan "b". Since Homestake/SantaFe will be such a formidable competitor, it makes mega-sense to me that Newmont would now want to link up with someone else. I'd love to see it ECO, but don't know what the synergy would be. I own shares in SantaFe as well as ECO, so it's probably too much to hope for. <g> If Newmont doesn't make a bid, I wonder about someone else. Barrick? Placer Dome? Don't know enough about Amax to comment. Paul
