Your point about price is good. There is the high end and the low end. Cable is high. The copper ISPs enhanced with a slower, say 500kbps, DSL will serve the low end well. Eventually high end quality will increase, prices will drop, functionality and pervasiveness will improve, and speed will dramatically rise obsoleting copper in any form. It took a long time though before Western Union disappeared. I had remembered that someone bought them for antique or historical reasons in the early '80s although I recently had a communication with someone in Russia who asked me to reply via Weztern Union.
