I have thought for many years that the woman of Rev 17 & 18, who is described as a cuty(17:18), was symbolic of the USA because of her great riches and we are the riches nation the world has ever known. Also, she had intercourse with all the nations of the world(18:3), which we are doing now. Add to that 18:23, her merchants were the great men of the earth, and all nations were deceived. What I have never been able to put together is , How the woman(USA) be drunk with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. As of yet our govt. has not persecuted Christians to the point of killing them. Unless you consider the bloodshed of sending soldiers into a war to protect International corporation interests as the bloodshed..
I also believe that the woman who went into the wilderness in 12:14 is the Jewish people who appear again in 17:3 in the wilderness as the woman labeled Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots. This does tend to parallel the things you say.
And if one takes the idea that God established America with part of His Bride to evangelize the world, then She turned her back on God, like the Jews of the OT, then , I say Yes. The imagery fits.
