"Sorry Rod but Gates held up the development of computers for a decade"

TRUE
Microsoft was still pushing developers to write for the 80286 up until 1994 but savvy programmers were writing for the 80386 as soon as Windows 3.0 was out. The lamer the hardware you ran on the more sales for Windows and the less the door was ajar for OS slash II or desktop UNIXs.

"DOS was a pathetic operating system."

TRUE
Calling DOS an operating system is a bit of a stretch. It could spin a disk, blast characters to the screen and read a keyboard. It soon became the dominant operating system because of the cheap but open architecture that it ran on. I am convinced of that, nothing in that OS gave an advantage.

"Nothing Gates has ever done has ever been creative or innovative."

FALSE
How about ripping off CP/M? That was pretty creative wasn't it?

"About the only thing GAtes did for the industry was make a sound card a PC standard. The OSs from MSFT are all dogs and bug ridden. MSFT repeats every mistake ever made in software. In 10 years the next generation of computer scientists are going to wonder why it took us so long to get out of this mess."

TRUE
They are slowly beginning to realize that the concepts and practices developed in the 70's for UNIX are actually light years ahead of what they developed in the 80's.

"So take it to the MSFT thread! And go study the OS's from the late 1960's. Gates higher purpose is to make money off of saps like you."

FALSE
Made a killing writing Windows software and investing in the huge monolithic conglomerate of Intel and Microsoft makes your claim patently false. Investing obviously isn't your bag.

THE REAL TRUTH
All of that is so much water over the damn. NT is serious stuff and to dismiss actual technology given the success of what was clearly the worst operating environment ever devised is really asking to miss out on yet another phenomenal run for both Microsoft and Intel.

This Intel rumor has really piqued my interest, saps like me don't have any aversion to making more money regardless of the particulars of the stock providing that income.
