X; after the fact; you find an increase in open interest, only if you track it, it's the OI that lets you know about how many writers you have, if the OI drops it's the writers buying back options, if it stays much the same it's just trades among the buyers.
To get a rough idea you need to keep up with the OI, vs the amount
of contracts traded.
