NSM has fallen asleep and missed the boat. The information they needed was right here 2 years ago yet when Jerry Rogers left nothing really new has happened. Since they haven't gotten to .25 they can't make any money on the M-II and they blew it on the production of higher speed grades for the GX....they couldn't even supply Compaq with enough GXs with MMX for them to put into desktops. Now they are relying on dumping chips to Packard Bell. They get no good press because of the poor FPU and businesses don't have enough faith to jump from Intel products despite the great speed/value ratio of the M-II. For Gawd sakes... HP, IBM and CPQ are even promoting Celeron based units for business apps when that chip is a dog compared to the M-II in that area. No 266 GXs either to be had either...maybe Portland will finally get some on line but now 266MHz is once again the bottom end.
They need 300 and up GXs.
MXi...great idea...but once again 5 months off...
PCOAC...what does NSM do??? They announce that these will be available ONE year before they are scheduled to hit the street. ONE YEAR...
That ought to be enough time for some other company to
cover that base? Jeez.
If any CPU maker (I say CPU for a reason) has to rise from the ashes
like the legendary "Phoenix" it's got to be NSM...because right now it it ain't airworthy. They could have started with a better FPU or 3dnow before now. Even if they get the M-II to 333-350-400 it's still the same 'ole FPU problem...well maybe it will get them to the MXi before they go belly up.
