Canada Payphone Corporation today proudly announces that the Company's application for registration as a Competitive Pay Telephone Service provider (CPTSP) has been approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunication Commission (CRTC). In granting its approval, the CRTC confirmed that Canada Payphone's application fulfilled the criteria established for registration as a CPTSP, pursuant to the enty procedures set forth in Telecom Decision CRTC 98-8, Local Pay Telephone Competition dated June 30, 1998. Registration as a CPTSP allows Canada Payphone to begin deployment of its Intelligent Payphones on a national basis and the Company is now positioned to commence full business operations. The Company has been preparing for this day for more than three years. This has included conducting Canada's first CRTC-licensed trial involving our intelligent payphones, extensive research and development, and forging strategic alliances with industry leaders like AT&T Canada Long Distance Services Company.
