The RBOCs charge about 50% more for DSL now. They will end up charging 50% less and it will be part of a market retaining loss-leader strategy. You have to consider that they have no other available alternative. This strategy will have the sole intent of buying time. Time to cook up a plan and actualize it in order to retain local telephony. The only possible alternative is to pull pure fiber along their ROW. That's a terrific strategy. Thus, few if any will do it. Guess who would handle the ISP function if one did go that route? Yes, the company you know is overvalued and stinks. It will always drive traders, and Wall Street crazy.
