I tend to agree Wall Street loves layoffs... but two weeks ago Novellus reported earnings and claimed business looked steady going into Q3... now they say customer spending is weak... which is it?

Novellus has not commented upon analyst estimates on Q3 or Q4, nor have they disputed the 60% cut in earnings estimated by Adams Harkness for rest of 1998 and all 1999

Novellus may have robbed Q3 as they pushed sales into Q2... shown up as big rise in acct receivables

if NVLS has been less than forthright, and Q3 is wicked droopy, only to worsen in Q4 and 1999, then they could have shareholder lawsuit... all provided stock price falters

coming on heels of Merrill Lynch Kurlik's report on chip sector recovery happening in 1999 with equips 4-5 months afterwards, I suspect this will not be well received... maybe stock price will drop 3/4 point, then march to 40 ?!?!

Wall Street seems to love certain company's layoffs, while hating others... THIS SEEMS LIKE A REPLAY OF A TAPE... if suspected to repeat then big selloff

could be a yawn... could be air pockets in August
