I find it hard to believe that I could burn out a
section of the motherboard, the printer and terminal
port area. I'm on vacation so, as usual, I am reworking and upgrading my relative's computers. One was burned out as you described. The cause was a lightning strike even though the computer was plugged into a store brand surge protector. Even components that we salvaged that appeared to work, such as diskette drives, had intermittent failures. I recommend total replacement.
